7 inch touch screen for an Asus EEE…possibly…

Stumbled across this just this morning which might be of interest to all those DIYers or anyone that has some intermediate to moderate soddering skills and aren’t afraid to crack up open a notebook: a 7 inch USB touch screen!!

With all the news about the Asus EEE and all the modding going around with them, this is not too bad of a find for $43.36. Ya don’t have to deal with any of those crazy ebay auctions for one, or any dodgy websites with outrageous shipping fees. DealExtreme is pretty on the ball in terms of shipping and fulfilling orders. They might take a couple of weeks, but hey, what do you expect for FREE SHIPPING. Yeah, thats right, FREE, world wide. I’ve ordered a crapload from these guys in the year or so, and every package they’ve sent, they’ve always written “led flashlight” on the customs declaration form, and I’ve yet to charged any duties or customs fees. Thats a big win in any one’s book.

But yeah, adding some touch screen action to the EEE would be a pretty sweet upgrade, and as a usb device, shouldn’t be too difficult to solder to the existing ports on it already and get configured. There’s enough videos on youTube and online to get started and finished in terms of this little install, though. Not sure what sort of added thickness it might add to the lcd, but to gain a touch screen interface over the tiny touch pad, it wouldn’t be too much of a sacrifice. And from what I’ve read, its actually pretty roomy inside of those EEEs.
